Paediatrics & Disability

Where others see barriers, we see challenges that can be overcome. At Absolute Potential, we’re passionate about helping kids and adults with disabilities excel.

Paediatrics

“Having children is like having your heart walk around outside of your body”

And giving them the best possible start to life so they can grow up strong, happy and resilient is what we want most.

Sometimes though, some of our little ones need a little more help than others, and that’s where the passionate and growth-focused expertise of Absolute Potential Paediatrics comes in – it’s like having a friend over to play with your child, only with the professional skills to help them move, function and live better.

At Absolute Potential we’ve helped many children successfully achieve milestones like learning to crawl, sit on their own and take their first steps. We’re also specialists in working with older children and teenagers who experience growing pains, sports injuries, poor coordination and amateur athletes wanting to perform better.

We believe in a positive, family-centred & multi-disciplinary approach that is a shared collaboration between the therapist, family, and child. Real-life goals that are important to you and your child are decided on in the initial appointment, which can be done in the comfort of your own home. We then provide stimulating, fun and interactive sessions based on your child’s needs and likes (because therapy should be enjoyable after all!), and give you exercises that your child can easily do at home and school. Our holistic physiotherapy approach is also integrated into your child’s therapy for lasting, life-long changes.

If your child is experiencing or has any of the following we can help:

  • Global Developmental Delay or not achieving age-appropriate milestones
  • Genetic and chromosomal disorders including Down’s Syndrome, Angelman’s, Prader Willi
  • Autism or autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, progressive muscle dystrophies
  • Failure to thrive, microcephaly, hydrocephaly, undiagnosed developmental conditions
  • Low or high tone
  • Low or over-weight
  • Osgood-Schlatter, growing pains, patello-femoral conditions
  • Acute sports injuries

We do home visits, hydrotherapy and school visits and can also work with your child’s other allied professionals and medical team where possible to achieve the best result for your child.

Sissy is a registered Better Start and NDIA provider and can help with wheelchair and equipment prescriptions. See here for more details regarding wheelchair and equipment funding. Your child may also be eligible for Medicare-subsidised sessions – contact us to find out more!

Sissy is AMAZING!!! She has done great work with my two daughters that have autism. Also my other daughter who does ballet – Sissy has helped her work through her injuries. Sissy is brilliant at explaining things to children and is very patient. I highly recommend her to everyone I know.

Sissy worked with us and our beautiful son Dominic. He has had challenges since birth and meeting Sissy and working with her through his early years was a blessing. He is so determined and driven and strives to do well every day. She helped arm us with the tools we needed to make each day a positive move in the right direction. We love you Sissy. Equipment and Wheelchair Funding Options Made Simple

With so many funding options for children and adults with disabilities, knowing where to start and what to choose can be difficult. Let us help make the process smooth and easy for you.

Adults & athletes with a disability

Having worked with countless adults and athletes with a disability, we understand that getting into the game and competing is a challenge all its own. At Absolute Potential we provide the treatment, education and equipment you need to reach your goals and compete at any level you desire!

Sissy has been passionate about working with people with a disability since first encountering the madness behind wheelchair rugby, known as ‘Murderball’, at a gym in Yeronga back in 2010. She has since travelled as the team physiotherapist with the Australian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team, performed medical screenings for national wheelchair basketball, rugby & goalball players and is the current team manager and physio of the Queensland Suncorp Cyclones Wheelchair Rugby team.

She has also given seminars on injury prevention and recovery to junior teams, and is a registered MASS/CAEATI provider and able to help with funding applications for sporting equipment, wheelchairs and community activities. Contact her today to find out more.

Sissy understands that going to appointments can be added stress both physically and mentally for people with disabilities and is able to do home visits on request.
