I always read the About page on websites.

Call it being nosy, curiosity or just plain interest – I think it’s my innate need to understand how things work and wanting to know the ’why’ behind a company or person (and what annoys my partner Ryan the most because I’m always asking questions :P)

Needless to say, it was hard for me to think of what to write on my own About page - what life events, experiences and information best summarise who I am and how my little business came to be? How do I pick what things influenced me the most that others might also want to read? #firstworldproblem

You just need to start to get anywhere in life so here goes :)

Hi, I’m Sissy and Absolute Potential Health & Performance is my business baby whose life goal is to help families, and especially our next generation, live their healthiest, happiest and fullest lives through a holistic approach to wellbeing.

Like so many parents, I think of my life as pre- and post-baby, and not just because of the massive change in responsibility and priorities you have once you bring a child on this earth.

Pre-baby, my intro line was my qualifications and what I did for a living. Post-baby, being a mama and balancing the at times crazy mix of family/work/social/self-care and everything else in between defines me more - those cliches people say about parenthood really are true, and life is no longer just about me.

Our little family has made the beautiful Sunshine Coast our home, in part because of the proximity to the beach, slower pace and the warmer weather which plays a huge role in improving Ryan’s wellbeing, who is a C5 quadriplegic and can’t regulate his temperature properly. We are passionate about living as eco-friendly, low-tox, organic and sustainable as possible, both for our own health and that of our planet. In 2017 we welcomed our headstrong and independent little girl, who loves home-made chia pudding, balls and dogs and pushing Papa’s wheelchair around when he isn’t getting around fast enough for her liking!

I’m an eternal student, and my evolution from conventional physio into C.H.E.K. Practitioner, nutritionist and ‘integrative health practitioner’ was a natural progression as I recovered from a 20-year eating disorder and being a cardio-junkie fat-phobe as well as looking for better solutions to help Ryan with his health issues that conventional medicine unfortunately didn’t help. Being REALLY good at researching and always wanting to learn more, brought me to where I am now - and it’s my life passion to share this knowledge with others so you too can feel more balanced and be your best self.

(Perfect segue into why I do what I do, right?)

I believe that true health starts with understanding who you really are, and what makes up your life. Yes, your whole, crazy, busy life.

Because it’s not just the food we eat (or shouldn’t eat), the exercise we do (or don’t do), the dodgy knee or chronic pain or family history; it’s not even your genetics - science debunked the belief that we’re the product of our genes years ago, giving us what is both liberating and (for some) stressful news: that we have the ability to change our bodies and future health.

It’s the whole picture, from gut health to movement, to rebalancing alignment and strength, to your environment and work, to the stressors in your life, your mindset, your ingrained beliefs, where you grew up and what you were told when you were young; it’s the intricate unique details that make up who you are that influence your state of health and wellbeing (or dis-ease and dysfunction).

Helping families understand these principles and making them work in their daily lives is what I love to do and if you’re still reading this, then you probably understand where I’m coming from. I want to know how YOU and your family work, not just because I’m innately curious but because I know it’s the best way to help you achieve what you want to achieve.

If you’re looking for a (insert qualification here) who doesn’t just look at your carb: fat ratio or a muscle sprain in isolation; a therapist who doesn’t just prescribe boring exercises for your kid but thinks outside the box; a practitioner who doesn’t just look at your external but also takes into account your background, the life you live in and the experiences that contributed to where you are now; if you’re looking for someone who will hear your story but then also connect the dots for you to get to the crux of what’s really going on, then we might just be a good fit for one another :)

As for the asking of the questions? It still drives Ryan up the wall, but he gets it. I hope you will too :)

Sis x
